Four Easy Anti-Aging Fitness Tips

Tip #1. Find an activity you enjoy doing.

If you don’t enjoy running but start jogging to get in shape, how long do you think it will take before you give up? Traditional fitness programs may or may not excite you. If they do not, and that has held you back from improving your fitness in the past, find an activity that you think you would enjoy. However, by activity, I mean it must be active.

There are a countless number of activities out there to choose from. You can choose individual activities such as, walking, running, bicycling, swimming, aerobics, yoga, Pilates, martial arts or boxing. You may choose an activity which requires a partner such as, racquet sports like tennis, racquetball and squash. You may wish to join in group sports like basketball, softball, volleyball, soccer or water polo. Your choices are limitless, and you don’t have to limit yourself to just one activity.

Tip #2. Slow and Steady Wins the Race

There is a small percentage of highly motivated people out there who can set a goal to get fit, train as hard as they can push themselves for three months (all the while chanting “no pain-no gain” ) and end up in the best shape of their lives. This approach does not work for most. If you are one of these people, my approach may slow you down just a little. Chances are, though, that you are not.

In fact, even if you think you are, you’re probably not. This is not meant to offend anyone. It is to help you to avoid one of the most common mistakes people make when undertaking a new fitness program. Don’t try and do too much too soon. If you’ve spent the last 10, 20, or 30 years getting out of shape; you’re not going to ‘get into shape’ in 6 weeks or 90 days even twice that. That’s what most people try to do every January, and for most that leads to body fatigue, overwhelming frustration, often times injury, and failure. I developed a free treadmill fitness program designed specifically for those who would like to get into shape, but never thought they could.

Tip #3. Get fit with a partner or a group.

Working out with a partner, or playing a group sport can turn exercise into a more enjoyable, social experience. You can look to your partner or teammates for motivation on those days when you are feeling a little lazy. Please note that any individual activity listed above can also be done alongside a workout partner.

Tip #4. No Gym? No Problem Start a home fitness exercise plan.
If you choose to workout at home on your home fitness equipment such as a treadmill or exercise bike, consider placing them in front of your television. Make a deal with yourself to only watch TV if you are using your exercise equipment, even if it’s on a very low intensity setting. If you watch a lot of TV, you may want to do this during only your favorite show to start out.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to purchase a piece of home fitness equipment, you can start a bodyweight exercise fitness program. I’d like to introduce to you a bodyweight fitness program adopted from the Russian martial art of Systema.

Systema is based on proper breathing and only 4 basic movements - the squat, push up, sit up, and the leg raise and takes only minutes a day. These movements can be tailored to anyone from the elderly to the elite athlete. Can’t do a push up, you say? No problem, stand facing a wall and place your hands on it with arms outstretched. Now lean forward using your arms for support, and then push away to return to the starting position. You can then progress to leaning against the stairs, then a push up with your knees on the floor, and eventually a standard push up. Sound too easy? Need something more challenging. Find a guy who can do a hundred push ups but I bet he can not he do just one. That is just one push up which takes 3 minutes to go down, and 3 minutes to go back up. The program is truly for anyone of any fitness level and excellent for your body.
