The skin needs several key antioxidants, vitamins and nutrients to be healthy. Not all of these should be applies directly to the skin – some you need to obtain from dietary sources.

I have compiled this antioxidant skin care guide with the antioxidants, vitamins and nutrients you should be obtaining through diet and dietary supplementation that have been shown overtime to improve the skin.

Vitamin A
Vitamin A acts as an antioxidant to neutralize harmful elements in our skin. It can help in preventing wrinkles and keep our skin's glow. Specifically, it helps with the construction of new skin and is necessary for healing of damaged skin. The health of our bodies’ epithelial tissues, specifically the skin, is directly dependent on the amount of vitamin A present in our bodies.

Vitamin B6 and B12
In general, Vitamin B promotes cell rejuvenation and made possible by the ability of Vitamin B to assist in generating new cell growth. Vitamin B are all water-soluble vitamin and are excreted within eight hours after ingestion needs to be replaced by food or vitamin supplements.
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) is used in the production of red blood cells and the biochemical reactions involved in the metabolism of amino acids. Vitamin B6 promotes healthy skin and hair. A B6 deficiency can easily lead to a number of skin conditions. Vitamin C
This is an essential vitamin and antioxidant for the formation of collagen. It has also been show to strengthen the capillaries that feed blood to the skin, as well as, neutralize free radicals.

Vitamin D3
Several studies have shown that an insufficiency of this vitamin can lead to skin dryness. Though the main function of vitamin D is to maintain normal blood values of calcium and phosphorus, it also plays an essential role in skincare as a potential treatment for psoriasis.

Vitamin E
Vitamin E, a important component of antioxidant skin care, is an antioxidant and has been shown to protect against free radical damage to the skin. Look for it to be in the d-alpha-tocopheral form.

Calcium and Magnesium together
When deficient in calcium, it can contribute to weakness of the skin. Magnesium is need to maintain the proper about of calcium in the body (they work synergistically together).

Carotenoid Blend
Carotenoids are key components of cellular protection including skin cells against free radical damage. They are also antioxidants and required for maintainable of Vitamin A.

Copper
Copper is essential for collagen production, an important protein for your skin.

Selenium
This mineral has antioxidant properties for possible cell protect from free radicals and is works synergistically with Vitamin E. Additionally, selenium is critical in the production of glutathione, often called the “master antioxidant”.

Zinc
It is vital for repairing damaged tissue and strengthening existing skin cells. Every cell in the body needs zinc to divide and replace itself when the body makes new tissues. Zinc is also vital for cell division. Skin cells replace themselves regularly and zinc deficiency often shows up as skin disorders.
